Stolen Magica av Davide Conti

First – How did you get into the design business? What is your background? – I arrived at the design business with a passion for design. I studied a lot to the Universities of Genoa and I practiced in architecture and design, forging a good experience in design.

Magic Is One True chair beautiful. How did you came up with the idea? – MAGICA and MAGICA2 comes from the study, a special chair that could be the essence of all the chairs, simple, elegant, ready to become an icon of the 21st century. I wanted to study a minimal chair that can amaze and excite the viewer who sees and who lives it. Then I entered the competition, organized by Design Quest, the Furniture Design Competition, Michigan, USA. and won the selection with both chairs, both MAGICA (black) that MAGICA2 (white).

Tell me about the process – Did you do a lot of sketches and Prototypes? How long did it take? Obstacles Were there? – The creative process has been a long two months, the study of line and form was found after a month, then the concentration to reach a chair with amazement, through the transparent legs, this detail has given the final effect. Many were small sketches and prototypes and obstacles there were in the early stages, when I had a clear concept was simple and interesting!

This blog is for swedish readers – how Swedes can buy the chair? Unfortunately my two chairs are not in production, therefore can not be sold. I have some contacts with companies that design come from Australia and Mexico, but I wish the production of this chair is made by a company in Northern Europe, because I think that represents the clean lines and contemporary Nordic line, the typical scandinavian style . Jag stötte på den här fantastiska stolen Magica för ett litet tag sedan. Stolen ger en illusion av att sakna ben men stöds upp av glas och finns i två utföranden. Dels den som du ser ovan den vita Magica 2 och dels den du ser nedan som heter Magica. Vilken som är snyggast har jag svårt att bedöma. Jag fick möjlighet att intervjua den lovande designern bakom – italienaren Davide Conti.

Till och börja med – Hur hamnade du i designbranschen?

Jag hamnade i designbranschen för att jag brann för design. På universitetet i Genoa studerade jag mycket arkitektur och design och fick på det sättet bra med erfarenhet av design.

Hur kom du på idén till den vackra stolen Magica?

jag ville att Magica och Magica 2 skulle vara en speciell stol som skulle fånga det innersta väsendet av alla stolar; enkel, elegant och redo att bli en ikon. Jag ville ta fram en minimalistisk stol som skulle förbluffa och stimulera en betraktare och användare. Jag deltog senare i tävlingen Future Design Competition i Michigan/USA och vann kategorin med både den svarta stolen Magica och Magica 2.

Hur gick processen till?

Den kreativa processen tog två långa månader. Arbetet med att få fram linjerna och formen tog en månad. Därefter jobbade jag detaljerat med att få fram effekten med de transparenta benen. Jag hade ett tydligt koncept som var både enkelt och intressant och jobbade med mycket småskisser och prototyper i början.

Hur kan man få tag på stolen i Sverige?

Tyvärr är inte stolen i produktion ännu men har lite kontakt med olika tillverkare i Australien och Mexico men önskar att produktionen kunde läggas någonstans i norra Europa eftersom jag tror att den representerar rena linjer som finns i den moderna skandinaviska stilen.
